ÂÌñÉç Geography Students Highlight Mismatch Between Montréal Bike Infrastructure and Demand

Published: 19 August 2025

A new study by geography graduate students and professors reveals that micromobility infrastructure in Montréal - bike lanes, BIXI docks, etc.- accounts for just ~2% of street space, despite significantly higher demand in key boroughs such as Plateau‑Mont‑Royal and Rosemont–La Petite‑Patrie. The study's model suggests that even doubling the current infrastructure would still result in a relatively low usage of public space, underscoring a substantial gap between infrastructure and actual travel behaviour.   More details on the study are available here.
