As part of the GURA, he focused on remote sensing of Arctic snow and sea ice: specifically analyzing satellite data across multiple years from a geographical perspective to identify patterns and correlations. Kingson’s research aimed to discern the optimal Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) frequency for sea ice by investigating radar signatures derived from multi-frequency SAR imagery over the Beaufort Sea in the Arctic.
Wed, 27 Aug 2025 04:45:03 +0000 grant.mckenzie@mcgill.ca 1492 at /geography ÂĚñÉç Geography Students Highlight Mismatch Between MontrĂ©al Bike Infrastructure and Demand /geography/channels/news/mcgill-geography-students-highlight-mismatch-between-montreal-bike-infrastructure-and-demand-366487
A new study by geography graduate students and professors reveals that micromobility infrastructure in MontrĂ©al - bike lanes, BIXI docks, etc.- accounts for just ~2% of street space, despite significantly higher demand in key boroughs such as Plateau‑Mont‑Royal and Rosemont–La Petite‑Patrie.
Tue, 19 Aug 2025 19:00:37 +0000 grant.mckenzie@mcgill.ca 1491 at /geography How our student journal club built on sand developed strong foundations /geography/channels/news/how-our-student-journal-club-built-sand-developed-strong-foundations-365675
The department's SandClub is an informal, interdisciplinary journal club where students tackle the big issue of global sand scarcity. Since March 2022, SandClub has run 25 sessions with more than 60 students from five faculties—transforming classic paper discussions into real-world peer-review workshops that build research confidence and demystify academic publishing.
