Laurie Plotnick

Dr Laurie PlotnickLAURIE PLOTNICK, MDCM, FRCPC, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, full time physician and Trauma Medical Head in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and an Associate Member of the Institute of Health Sciences Education. Dr. Plotnick is committed to educational excellence and innovation at all learner levels with a particular interest in innovative learning methods and optimizing education-related collaborations. At the undergraduate level, she was the Director of the Introduction to Clinical Medicine/Transition to Clinical Practice (2012-2017) component leading the component’s curricular revision which included novel learning methods and assessments. In her roles of Associate Director (Education) of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (1997-2019), Associate Chair (Education) of the Department of Pediatrics (2016-2021) and Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (2019-2024), Dr. Plotnick led educational advancements and innovations for residents, faculty and community healthcare providers including the creation of several pediatric acute care-related courses, renewal of the Division’s academic half-days, interdivisional collaborations related to CPD, simulation and curricular programming, and the engagement of retired physicians as teachers and mentors (Helen Karounis Agora Program, H-KAP).

Current research interests: engaging retired physicians as teachers; clinical reasoning; forward-feeding; innovative learning methods; gender-diverse leadership; emergency medicine educational innovations
