Kyle Matthews is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Global Security. He previously worked as Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies. His work focuses on human rights, international security, emerging technologies and countering authoritarianism. He is a member of the Global Diplomacy Lab and the BMW Foundation鈥檚 Global Responsible Leaders network. He is currently a member of the Government of Canada鈥檚 Cross-cultural Roundtable on Security. He began his career as a humanitarian aid worker with CARE International and then served as a diplomat with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees where he was posted to Tbilisi (Georgia), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Geneva (Switzerland). He has also worked as a consultant for UNICEF, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Swiss Foreign Ministry. He is a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his work to advance human rights.
